Suburban Park Elementary School (1955-Present)

Aerial School

Suburban Park Present

Suburban Park Elementary was a neighborhood school that opened in January of 1955 with 22 classrooms, and served first through seventh grades. The school's name was selected because of its location in the Suburban Acres neighborhood of Norfolk, VA. The school's first principal was Mrs. Frances Whitley. The Suburban Park P.T.A. held their first official meeting in February of 1955; and hosted the first "Open House" on May 15, 1955, with around 800 parents and students attending. In addition to the 22 classrooms, the original building had a cafeteria, library, auditorium, shop class, and home-economics kitchen.
